The Ark
This clip from the first episode of the series shows how the 100 were sent to Earth by the Ark in hopes of discovering that the planet is now habitable.
As was mentioned on the page discussing some of the religious themes in The 100, the Ark, which is the space station where Skaikru is from, is a symbol of Noah's Ark. It is the home of (what was thought to be) the last of the human race, where they have created their own civilization. They garden, have jobs, go to school, as do we. However, they cannot survive in space forever. As they scramble to figure out ways to increase their years of survival, the leaders of the Ark make the decision to send teenage deliquents to Earth to see if it is habitable, decades after the nuclear disaster that tore the planet apart.

The story of Noah's Ark and the story of the 100 are similar in many ways. This type of journey requires immense amounts of strength and courage. Both the animals and the 100 had to go through this against their will, not knowing what the outcome would be. The story of Noah's Ark is described as:
"From solid earth to unstable waters; from community to family; from freedom to loss and confinement; from social and biological complexity to the minimal existence of survivors. In simplified form, it is a story of rescue, salvation and fresh beginnings, with a filmic hero and great visual appeal: the weighty and protective boat, the paired animals, the father who listens to God, the God who speaks, the little dove that brings an olive branch back to Noah to show him that the water has receded" (Walker 5).
The story of the 100 deliquents that were sent to the Earth could be described in a similar matter, with a few post-apoctalyptic changes of course. They went from space to a planet that they did not know the condition of, they only had each other to rely on, had to learn how to survive while being all alone. It was a fresh start for the human race, with only their dropship and manmade tents to protect them. As their radio broke during the landing of the dropship, they had no way to communicate with the leaders of the Ark immediately, but they figured out a way to do it. Their story shows resilience, strength and courage, much like the story of Noah's Ark does.
